Dance Educators Association of Washington supports and advocates for the dance community in Washington State. We envision equitable access
to quality dance education for all people regardless of
gender, age, race, religion, culture, socio-economic status, or ability.
In Service to our Mission, DEAW:
Upholds dance education which includes: the elements of dance, improvisation, composition, historical and cultural context, aesthetics, criticism, technique, performance, production, and career paths.
Promotes dance as a basic part of PreK-12 curriculum for all students.
Incorporates dance as an essential element of classroom teacher professional development.
Supports pedagogical training in dance degree programs in higher education.
Cultivates partnerships among arts agencies and organizations, schools, studios, businesses, teaching artists, performers, choreographers, companies, educators, and dance professionals.
Provides quality professional development opportunities including: workshops, seminars, and conferences.
Fosters excellence in dance education through research, advocacy, and model programs.
Champions dance values including: building community, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, perseverance, resilience, lineage, and learning in Washington State.
National Dance Education Organization Affiliation
DEAW is a proud state affiliate of the
National Dance Education Organization.
The mission of NDEO is to advance dance education centered in the arts.
NDEO holds public discussions; sponsors institutes, conferences, and programs; and forges alliances with other agencies in support of dance arts education.
The goals of NDEO are to
promote dance as an artistic process that broadens and deepens human experience;
strengthen the national voice in articulating and implementing a vision for dance education;
weave dance into the complete fabric of learning.
NDEO encourages research and practical application to promote quality instruction in dance arts education conducted by qualified teachers of dance.
The NDEO website offers many resources available to members, including dance education research, arts advocacy tools and information, and special interest group discussion forums.
